- When your immune system overreacts to a normally harmless substance (like pollen, dust or a certain food), it is known as an allergic reaction that indicates your body’s allergy
- These substances that trigger allergies are called allergens. When exposed to an allergen, your body makes a protein called an antibody to fight it, resulting in a symptomatic response
- Allergens can enter the body by the airways (breathing in pollen), skin (touching pet dander), gastrointestinal tract (ingesting shellfish) or by entering the circulatory system (being stung by a bee)
- Seasonal allergies are allergies that occur during specific times of the year, like when trees bloom and pollen counts are higher
- Perennial allergies occur any time of the year as a result of allergens that are always around
- Pollen from trees, flowers and grass
- Animals such as dust mites and cockroaches, as well as pet dander
Allergy Symptoms?1
When you touch, inhale or eat something you’re allergic to, you may experience the following symptoms:

- Allergies can be caused by genetic or environmental factors. You’re more likely to have allergies if anyone in your family has allergies, asthma or eczema
- Allergies happen when your immune system mistakingly identifies a normally harmless substance as something harmful
- Inhaling, eating or touching an allergen activates antibodies meant to protect you and flush the allergen out of your system. This results in the symptoms you may experience
- You could be exposed to a substance more than once before reacting to it. This is because the first time, your body creates antibodies while the next time, it activates them
Allerway 5 and Allerway Meltaway 5 are indicated in adults and children from 6 years of age for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives).5,6
Hay fever is a common allergic reaction to pollen, dust or pet dander that causes cold-like symptoms.4,7
Chronic hives are red, itchy skin welts that last more than 6 weeks as a result of exposure to an allergen on a regular basis, but the exact cause is unknown.8
*In adults and children from 6 years of age.5,6 Hay fever is seasonal or present throughout the year3
